Authentic vs. Artificial: Chat SkiPT hits the marketing slopes 🤖⛷️

Austria's new spin on AI + 3 travel marketing takeaways

Chat live with Austria’s Chat SkiPT

It’s hard to believe how far artificial intelligence has come in just a year. Last January, I was playing around with AI-generated itineraries for a Paris trip (ChatGPT suggested I start every morning with a bottle of champagne, which… isn’t a bad idea?!) and was both fascinated and frightened by the possibilities.

In the year since, businesses have moved quickly to incorporate AI into every aspect of their work, from helping analyze big amounts of data to the more creative tasks of content creation and even customer service with tools like custom-trained chatbots answering traveler questions on their sites.

Now, if you’re already missing the good old days of one year ago, you’ll likely get a kick out of this new Chat SkiPT campaign from the Austrian National Tourist Office. Instead of artificial intelligence, they promise ‘Authentic Intelligence’ in chats with “100% real human ski instructors trained on the slopes of the Austrian Alps.”

(ChatGPT can do a lot of things, but carving it up on a black diamond route isn’t one of them!)

I haven’t had the chance to test the newfangled AI out yet (they’re only available from 5 - 9 pm), but I appreciate the clever angle. After the Chat SkiPT hook, you’ll also find links to information on their ski school, winter in Austria, and more.

What do you think? Does this make you want to give Chat SkiPT a try before hitting the slopes? And how does this change how you think about incorporating AI (artificial or authentic) into your travel business?

⚡️ Travel Marketing Tips ⚡️

Inspired by Austria’s authentic intelligence? Here are three ways you can apply the concepts behind this campaign to your own travel marketing efforts:

  1. Leverage Local Experts - Engage local personalities in your digital channels. For instance, have a chef answer culinary questions on your hotel’s website.

  2. Humanize Your Chat Service - Instead of automated responses, use real staff to answer queries on your social media, respond to reviews on your TripAdvisor, and more. This adds a personal touch to customer interaction.

  3. Host Live Q&A Sessions - Regularly organize live sessions on platforms like Instagram or Facebook, where guests can interact with your staff or local guides.
